The Chicago West Loop Neighborhood

The West Loop is one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city.  It is the best place for young professionals and others who want to enjoy being social.  There are restaurants of all different types of cuisine, along with a completely revived Fulton Market District, that complement the Greek Town eateries on Halsted Street.

The general N-E-S-W borders are: Grand Avenue, the Chicago River, I-290 and Ashland Avenue/Ogden Avenue.  The West Loop’s other main benefit is its close proximity to employers in downtown.  It is part of the official Near West Side community area.

One of the city’s Latin fusion restaurants is a staple of the neighborhood.

Outdoor dining has become very popular since 2020.  Local restaurants banded together with the city to create outdoor food halls.  What was once an old meatpacking district has been gentrified into a mecca for companies like Google to setup offices in the neighborhood.  The benefit to their employees is exposure to some of the best food in the city.

The condominium is by and far the most ubiquitous form of housing in the West Loop, with there being thousands of them throughout the neighborhood.

There are, however, townhouse communities available.  The density of residents per block is very high.  Single family detached homes are very rare.

Open Space

Bartelme Park, named after the first woman judge in Illinois, is a favorite spot for local children looking to burn off steam.

Locals can find outdoor activities all over the neighborhood.  There are open air dining, food festivals, and other events that take advantage of the open space available in the West Loop.

Skinner elementary school is the Chicago public school for K-8 in the neighborhood.

Whitney Young High School has been nationally recognized for decades as one of the premier schools in the country.
